In an eagerly anticipated matchup, the Boston Red Sox are set to face the Houston Astros in a three-game series starting Monday night at Minute Maid Park. This game marks a special return for third baseman Alex Bregman, who played his first nine MLB seasons with the Astros, contributing to two World Series championships, despite controversies surrounding the 2017 title.
Bregman, now 31, expressed excitement about returning to Houston, highlighting the competitive atmosphere of facing two playoff-bound teams. “I think it’s going to be great. Two playoff teams getting after it,” he said. Bregman looks forward not only to playing but also to reconnecting with teammates, stadium staff, and fans. “Just seeing the guys and competing… trying to get some wins,” he added.
Manager Alex Cora, also a former Astro, lauded Bregman’s contributions during his time in Houston and hopes for a packed house to honor the veteran. “He did some amazing things [in Houston],” Cora remarked. Bregman is currently batting .298 with 14 home runs and boasts a .911 OPS, showcasing his continued impact on the field.
In the lead-up to this series, the Red Sox faced a setback, losing to the Padres 6-2 on Sunday and dropping two of three games in San Diego. Tonight’s game is set for 8:10 PM in Houston.
In other sports news, the New England Patriots will play their second preseason game against the Vikings on Saturday at 1 PM, while the Revolution host LAFC at Gillette Stadium the same evening at 7:30 PM.
This promised showdown between the Sox and Astros will certainly be one to watch as Bregman returns to his old stomping grounds.
