Draft Position Won’t Influence Patriots Kicking Battle

Patriots Kicking Competition Heats Up Amid Cold Streaks

FOXBOROUGH – The competition between kickers Parker Romo and Andy Borregales took a turn on Day 14 of Patriots training camp, as both players faced a chilly day at the practice field. Previously boasting impressive statistics—Romo at 32-of-33 and Borregales at 30-of-34—neither performed at the top of their game on Monday. Borregales converted only 2-of-4 attempts and missed a 60-yard field goal, while Romo struggled further, going 1-of-4 and missing an extra point.

Patriots special teams coach Jeremy Springer emphasized that a player’s draft status won’t dictate their position on the team. “It’s about consistency,” he stated. “You have to earn a role, regardless of whether you were drafted or signed as a free agent.” Throughout camp, Romo has maintained the better overall percentage at 89.1%, while Borregales follows closely with an 84.2% success rate.

Springer remains optimistic about both kickers, highlighting the importance of competition: “It’s about earning a role, but consistency is key.” With training camp still ongoing, fans will have to wait to see who ultimately secures the starting kicker role.
