Press Release

Tragic Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Massachusetts Corrections Sergeant

Lancaster, MA – A motorcycle crash on Thursday, August 7, has tragically claimed the life of Aaron David Gill, a 50-year-old sergeant with the Massachusetts Department of Correction. The accident occurred on Route 117 near Crawford Truck Sales as Gill was riding his motorcycle west and failed to navigate a curve. Emergency responders were on the scene quickly, but Gill’s injuries were so severe that life-saving measures could not be performed.

Born on August 21, 1974, in Burlington, Vermont, Gill was just weeks shy of his 51st birthday and was affectionately remembered as a loving father, brother, and uncle. He graduated from West Bridgewater High School in 1992 and dedicated 27 years to the state corrections department, even volunteering for recovery efforts in New York after the 9/11 attacks. His obituary praises his character, describing him as a man of service and loyalty.

Gill was also an accomplished bagpipe player, performing with the Irish American Police Officers Association Pipes & Drums and co-founding the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union’s Pipe and Drum band. His contributions to the community were further reflected in his passion for genealogy and New England history.

In addition to his professional and community service, Gill was a proud founding member of the Hired Guns Motorcycle Club of Massachusetts. He leaves behind his daughter, mother, three brothers, stepfather, and many friends.

Memorial services for Sergeant Aaron Gill will be held at Russell & Pica Funeral Home in West Bridgewater on August 15 from 3–7 p.m., with a service the following day at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
