Braintree Faces Elimination After Tough Loss in Little League World Series
Williamsport, PA – Braintree’s hopes in the Little League World Series took a hit after a challenging 13-0 defeat against Irmo, South Carolina, the Southeast champions. The game, which ended in the fourth inning due to the mercy rule, showcased Braintree’s struggles on both offensive and defensive fronts.
Braintree started with promise as Logan Needle led off with a walk, but the team’s momentum quickly evaporated. Irmo capitalized on Braintree’s pitching, scoring four runs in the second inning. Joe Giulietti, a standout for Irmo, delivered a grand slam that propelled the team to an 8-0 lead, further dashing Braintree’s hopes.
Giulietti not only hit impressively — finishing 2 for 2 with four RBIs — but also excelled on the mound, tossing 3⅓ no-hit innings while striking out eight batters. Braintree managed only one hit, a single from Colman Gouthro, who struggled on the mound allowing seven runs on six hits.
Braintree now finds themselves in the elimination bracket and will face Lamar, Texas, the Southwest champions, at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The team will look to regroup and put this defeat behind them as they strive for a shot at redemption in the tournament.
As Braintree prepares for their do-or-die matchup, the team remains optimistic and focused, aiming to demonstrate their resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Fans of the New England champions will be hoping for a strong performance that can turn the tide of their tournament experience.
