Louisiana Sues Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns
Baton Rouge, La. — Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced a lawsuit against the popular online gaming platform Roblox, asserting it has created a space where sexual predators can easily exploit children. Murrill claims that the company has neglected its duty to implement sufficient safety measures, putting the state’s children at risk.
The lawsuit follows reports of numerous incidents involving child predators on the platform. Notably, a recent case in Iowa involved a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly led to an adult predator, ultimately resulting in kidnapping and trafficking. In Louisiana, local law enforcement has reported multiple cases linked to Roblox, including one where a man misused voice-altering technology to disguise himself as a young girl.
Roblox has been criticized for not effectively enforcing age verification processes, allowing adults to easily pose as minors in the gaming environment. Despite measures like banning video sharing in chats and a new age verification feature requiring video selfies for teens, Murrill argues these efforts are insufficient. The Attorney General has even suggested that the platform should face shutdown if it does not enhance child protection. Roblox maintains a zero-tolerance policy for child exploitation and has implemented AI tools to detect and report potential threats.
