Bystander Rescues Driver from SUV in Lake Quinsigamond
SHREWSBURY, MA—A quick-thinking bystander saved the driver of a 2021 Hyundai Palisade after the vehicle, which was towing a boat, entered Lake Quinsigamond on Tuesday afternoon. Around 4:30 p.m., Shrewsbury police received reports of the submerged SUV at the Corazzini Boat Ramp on North Quinsigamond Avenue.
Before police arrived, the bystander managed to assist the driver in exiting the sinking vehicle, ensuring their safety. Fortunately, the driver was assessed at the scene by first responders and did not require any further medical assistance.
Both the SUV and the boat were subsequently retrieved from the lake by Lovey’s Towing. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the incident, and no injuries were reported. The prompt actions of the bystander are being credited with preventing what could have been a more serious situation.
As investigations proceed, local law enforcement continues to remind citizens to remain vigilant around water bodies and to assist anyone in distress when safe to do so.
