Toronto, ON – Actress Jamie Lee Curtis made a heartfelt revelation during the world premiere of her latest film, “The Lost Bus,” at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film, based on true events from the catastrophic 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California, features Curtis’s late mother, Janet Leigh, in an unexpected familial connection.
Curtis, 66, recounted meeting Mary Ludwig — a schoolteacher portrayed by America Ferrera in the film — who shared a surprising link to her mother. "Mary said, ‘My father dated your mother,’" Curtis revealed, highlighting the history as a poignant moment at the premiere. Janet Leigh, known for her iconic role in “Psycho,” was originally Jeanette Helen Morrison from Merced, California.
“The Lost Bus,” directed by Paul Greengrass and featuring Matthew McConaughey as school bus driver Kevin McKay, tells the harrowing story of a bus driver and a teacher who seek to rescue 22 children amid raging wildfire. McConaughey shared a touching personal memory, recalling how he took his own mother to see Curtis in the film “Halloween” shortly before the devastating blaze.
In a delightful twist, McConaughey’s 17-year-old son Levi and his 93-year-old mother Kay both found roles in the film, showcasing the deep-rooted connections within the industry. McConaughey revealed how Levi’s persistent desire to audition led to his successful casting, with director Greengrass affirming the talent behind the family names.
Curtis, daughter of Hollywood legends Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, reflected on her heritage and the stories that bind families together. “The Lost Bus” is set to hit theaters on September 19, followed by streaming on Apple TV+ on October 3.
