JaShun Cooley, a 38-year-old man from Roxbury who was fatally shot in Boston last month, is being remembered for his compassionate personality. Cooley, who was found with gunshot wounds near 159 Washington St. on August 24, passed away after being taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Born in Boston in 1986, Cooley spent his after-school time at the Boys and Girls Club of Roxbury where he developed a love for sports. He won many athletic and leadership awards in youth basketball, football, and hockey, forming a special bond with his cousins. Cooley was part of the state’s METCO program and graduated from Lexington High School in 2004 before working as a highway technician for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. He was also a talented rapper, enjoyed recording music, and was a fan of all Boston sports teams. Described as having a great sense of humor and always smiling, Cooley made a lasting impact on those he encountered. He is survived by his parents, two siblings, and many other cherished relatives and friends. Cooley’s obituary describes him as a loyal leader and someone who had love for his community. The Boston community mourns the loss of a beloved individual who left a positive mark on all who knew him.
