Brent Metz, a Colorado city council member, is accused of shooting a 17-year-old in the face while the teenager was looking for a place to take homecoming photos in Conifer, Colorado. The teenagers had jumped the fence of a lakeside property to try to speak with the homeowner, who had called the police to report trespassing. Metz approached the teenagers with his gun drawn and a shot was fired, injuring one of the teens. The injured teen thought he was going to die, but survived the shooting and remained hospitalized as of Thursday morning.
Metz, a member of the Mountain View city council, is facing charges of 1st Degree Assault, Felony Menacing, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, and Reckless Endangerment. His term on the city council is scheduled to end in 2027, but it is unclear if he will face any action from the city as a result of the incident. Metz is scheduled to appear in court on September 17, and attempts to contact his lawyer went unanswered. The incident has raised questions about Metz’s actions and the consequences he may face as a city council member.
