Red Sox suffer 8-3 defeat against Rays in St. Petersburg

The Tampa Bay Rays secured an 8-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night, with Shane Baz delivering a strong pitching performance allowing only two runs and two hits over seven innings. Jose Siri played a pivotal role, hitting a home run and driving in four runs, including a three-run double in the eighth inning. The Rays hit three homers in a four-run fifth inning, with Junior Caminero, Josh Lowe, and Brandon Lowe also contributing to the offensive display.

Despite their win, the Rays still trail the Minnesota Twins by six games for the final AL wild card spot, with competition from teams like Boston, Seattle, and Detroit. Triston Casas and Romy Gonzalez homered for the Red Sox, who are five games back of the Twins with 11 games remaining in the season.

Nick Pivetta started for the Red Sox but struggled, allowing four runs and five hits over 4 2/3 innings before being replaced. Despite the Rays’ offensive onslaught, the Red Sox were unable to overcome their early deficit. Kevin Kelly closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning for the Rays.

Looking ahead, Red Sox manager Alex Cora expects RHP Tanner Houck to make his first start since September 4, facing off against Rays RHP Ryan Pepiot. Houck has been dealing with right shoulder fatigue, while Pepiot aims to bounce back from a recent outing where he was pulled early due to decreased velocity. With the season winding down, both teams are fighting for their spot in the playoffs.
