Three individuals have been arrested after a Houston police officer was shot during a home invasion. Raymond Perez has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Two others, Michael Perez and Brian A. Garcia Chavez, have been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. The incident began when two suspects rushed a homeowner after knocking on her door. One suspect shot at a patrolman, hitting him in the leg, before being arrested. The injured officer was taken to the hospital but is expected to fully recover. The officer’s partner applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, praised by the police chief for their actions. The neighbor who called 911, suspecting something was wrong, was also commended for their vigilance. Houston Mayor John Whitmire praised the first responders for their bravery and dedication. The case is being investigated by the Houston Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The injured officer has been with the department for eight years, while his partner has served for 12 years. Victim services are being provided to the homeowner and child involved in the incident.
