Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted CNN’s invitation to participate in a second presidential debate against former President Donald Trump on October 23, less than two weeks before the election. However, Trump has not yet accepted the invitation. Harris expressed her hope that Trump will join her on the debate stage. The debate is set to follow the same format and setup as a previous CNN debate attended by Trump in June, which he claimed to have won. Despite this, Trump initially stated he would not debate Harris again, but later mentioned that he may consider it if he was in the right mood.
The debate between Harris and Trump would mirror the format of a previous debate between President Joe Biden and Trump in June. Biden’s poor debate performance in that debate led to him dropping out of the 2024 race and endorsing Harris. The previous debate between Harris and Trump, hosted by ABC News, covered contentious issues such as abortion, immigration, and the economy. Harris’s campaign chair expressed confidence in her ability to share the stage with Trump again, while also highlighting the importance of engaging in debates as part of the democratic process.
