Erik Menendez responds to Ryan Murphy’s portrayal of the Menendez brothers in the new series – NBC New York

In a recent statement shared by his wife, Erik Menendez expressed his disappointment with Ryan Murphy’s series about him and his brother Lyle. Titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” the show premiered on Netflix on September 19. Erik accused the show of perpetuating lies and creating a caricature of his brother rooted in falsehoods. He questioned Murphy’s intent in inaccurately portraying their lives and claimed that the show took the truth several steps backward.

Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted in 1996 of first-degree murder for killing their parents in 1989. The brothers alleged that they were abused by their parents for years and killed them in self-defense. The portrayal of the crimes in “Monsters” has upset Erik, who believes that the show fails to acknowledge the abuse they suffered.

Erik expressed his belief that violence is never the answer and highlighted the importance of speaking out against abuse. He criticized the show for its portrayal of the tragedies and the characters involved. Erik hopes that the true impact of violence against children will not be ignored and emphasized the significance of addressing abuse and its consequences. Netflix, Ryan Murphy, and the cast have not responded to Erik Menendez’s comments on the series.
