Rafael Devers admits to struggling with his performance during the 2024 season

Boston Red Sox star third baseman Rafael Devers saw his 2024 season cut short due to nagging shoulder inflammation, prompting his placement on the injured list. Although Devers will not require surgery, manager Alex Cora revealed that the All-Star had been struggling with shoulder discomfort since spring training. Despite a strong start to the season, Devers’ performance declined significantly towards the end, hitting just .205 in his final 42 games.

Devers, who earned his third All-Star nod this season, expressed frustration with his overall performance despite some impressive numbers, including a .272 batting average, 28 home runs, and 83 RBI over 138 games. The 27-year-old slugger admitted that his shoulder issues affected his ability to play at his best.

Cora remains hopeful that Devers will be fully recovered by February, without the need for surgery. Devers, known for his competitive spirit, emphasized his commitment to giving his all on the field, even when facing physical challenges. With the Red Sox aiming for a playoff run in the upcoming season, Devers’ recovery will be crucial to their success.

Overall, despite his setbacks, Devers’ determination and talent remain key assets for the Red Sox as they look to make a postseason push in 2025.
