Man accused of writing a note suggesting he planned an assassination plot against Trump

A man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a golf course in Florida has been revealed to have left behind a note detailing his intentions to kill Trump. The Justice Department disclosed that the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, had a handwritten list of dates and venues where Trump was scheduled to appear. Furthermore, a detention memo filed by the department outlined that Routh had planned the attack meticulously, with a Secret Service agent thwarting his attempt at the West Palm Beach golf course.

The note, found in a box left at an unidentified individual’s home, indicated Routh’s failed assassination attempt on Trump and offered a reward of $150,000 for anyone who could successfully carry out the job. The suspect’s car, subsequent to his arrest, was found to contain various cellphones, including one with a Google search on how to travel to Mexico, along with a notebook filled with criticism of foreign governments and notes on joining the war in Ukraine.

Routh has been charged with illegally possessing a firearm due to previous felony convictions and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. The Justice Department indicated that additional charges may follow in the coming weeks. The arrest was made after a Secret Service agent spotted Routh with a rifle aimed at him at the golf club, prompting the suspect to flee before being apprehended by authorities in a neighboring county.

Authorities are emphasizing the seriousness of the case, citing Routh’s detailed planning and potential threat to public safety. The attorney for Routh has yet to respond to the allegations.
