Mother of Elijah Lewis, accused of his killing, intends to plead guilty

In a tragic case that has gripped the local community, Danielle Dauphinais of New Hampshire has been sentenced to 55 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and tampering with a witness. The charges stem from the death of her 5-year-old son, Elijah Lewis, whose body was found buried in the woods in Abington, Massachusetts, after he was reported missing in October 2021.

The plea agreement also includes a shorter sentence for the tampering charges, ranging from three and a half to seven years. Dauphinais’ boyfriend, Joseph Staph, had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other charges connected to Elijah’s death, receiving a sentence of 22 to 45 years in prison. Autopsy results revealed that Elijah’s death was caused by a combination of violence, neglect, acute fentanyl intoxication, malnourishment, and pressure ulcers.

Dauphinais had allegedly made disturbing comments about her son to friends, comparing him to serial killers and expressing a lack of connection with him. The tragic case has raised questions about the safety and well-being of children and the need for greater awareness of child abuse and neglect. As the community mourns Elijah’s death and seeks justice for him, his story serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable children and ensuring their safety.
