Death Toll Rises as Israeli Strike Hits Medical Centre in Central Beirut, Lebanon officials report

Israeli airstrikes on a central Beirut medical center have led to the deaths of at least six people, as Lebanon suffers from the deadliest day on the Lebanese front following clashes with Hezbollah. The attack targeted a medical center belonging to the Hezbollah-linked Islamic Health Organization. Three missiles also hit the southern suburb of Dahiyeh, where Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed the previous week. The wider region awaits Israel’s response to Iran’s missile attack, with US President Joe Biden stating he would not support an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites.

Lebanon’s health officials reported that 46 people had been killed and 85 wounded in Israeli strikes on the city in the past 24 hours, with over 1,000 people killed in Lebanon over the past two weeks. Hezbollah leader Nasrallah had reportedly agreed to a 21-day ceasefire pushed by the US and France just days before his assassination by Israel.

The conflict has led to the deaths of many civilians, including children, in Gaza and elsewhere, prompting condemnation from the international community. The situation in the region remains tense as Israel and Iran continue their attacks, and diplomatic efforts are underway to seek a ceasefire and de-escalate the situation. Thousands of foreign nationals have been evacuated from Lebanon, and the UN has called for an end to the cycle of violence. The situation remains fluid as the conflict continues to escalate.
