In Massachusetts, Iconic Punk Band Begins Final Tour

Legendary British post-punk band, Gang of Four, has announced a farewell tour in 2025 to celebrate their pioneering music and pay tribute to the 45th anniversary of their debut album, “Entertainment!”. The “Long Goodbye Tour” will include 25 stops in cities across North America, starting on April 20 in Somerville, Massachusetts. The band will play the album in its entirety followed by a set of fan-favorite songs.

Gang of Four, considered one of the most influential bands to emerge from the British punk scene, formed in Leeds, England in 1976. The band’s stripped-down sound, blending punk rock with funk and dance music, along with their socially and politically conscious lyrics, made a strong impact on listeners. With 10 studio albums released between 1979 and 2019, the band achieved chart success in the U.S. with songs like “I Love a Man in a Uniform” and “Is It Love?”.

The band’s influence has spanned generations, with artists like R.E.M., Nirvana, and Red Hot Chili Peppers citing them as an inspiration. Their album “Entertainment!” was ranked by Rolling Stone as the fifth greatest punk album of all time. The band’s lineup has evolved over the years, with founding members Jon King and Hugo Burnham joined by David Pajo and Gail Greenwood in recent years.

The tour announcement comes following the death of guitarist Andy Gill in 2020. A reissue of the album “Songs of the Free” is set for release on October 25, remastered from the original tapes. Tickets for the farewell tour go on sale on October 4, offering fans a chance to see this iconic band live one last time.
