After a recent loss to the Dolphins, the New England Patriots find themselves leading the race for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With a record of 1-4, the Patriots are among six teams with the same record, but they have the weakest strength of schedule which puts them at the top of the Tankathon standings. The Patriots have lost four straight games after a season-opening win against Cincinnati.
If the season ended today, the Patriots would have the No. 1 pick in the draft, which would be the first time since 1994 that the franchise has had back-to-back top-5 selections. Despite the losing streak, there is speculation that quarterback Drake Maye could be gearing up for his first start. Last season, after starting 1-5, the Patriots finished 4-13 and secured the No. 3 overall pick, which they used to select Maye.
The Patriots will face off against the Jaguars, Rams, and Titans in upcoming games, all teams with similar records. Head coach Jerod Mayo, a former Patriots linebacker, will be looking to turn the season around and secure a high draft pick in hopes of bolstering the team’s roster for the future. The Patriots’ four-game losing streak is currently the longest in the NFL this season.
