Israeli education minister Yoav Kisch has issued a threat warning that “Lebanon, as we know it, will not exist,” following calls by far-right Israeli ministers to destroy the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. This comes after Israel’s campaign to “eradicate” Hamas in Gaza led to widespread destruction, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians.
Israel has now intensified its war against Lebanon, deploying similar tactics used in Gaza, including warnings to villagers in south Lebanon to evacuate areas used by Hezbollah for military purposes. The indiscriminate bombing and destruction in Lebanon mirror the atrocities committed in Gaza, with civilians caught in the crossfire.
As Israel continues its brutal campaign in Lebanon, displacing thousands and destroying homes and infrastructure, the fear of protracted displacement looms over the population. People like Jad Dilati, who fled from Nabatieh to Beirut, fear they may never return home to rebuild their lives.
Despite the devastation wrought by Israeli aggression, Dilati remains hopeful that his community will rebuild and emerge stronger than before. He is determined to return to Nabatieh and contribute to the reconstruction efforts, believing that they will ultimately triumph over the forces seeking to destroy their way of life.
