The Chicago Blackhawks will be adding another member to their roster as Tyler Bertuzzi is expected to sign a four-year deal with the team when free agency opens on Monday. The forward, who spent last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, is set to join Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno in Chicago. According to reports, Bertuzzi will sign for an annual average value of $5.5 million for four years.
Bertuzzi previously played with the Boston Bruins after being acquired from the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline. He had signed a one-year deal with Toronto last season in the hopes of securing a more lucrative contract in free agency this year. With a solid but unspectacular year in Toronto, Bertuzzi will now be joining the Blackhawks for a similar salary.
The Bruins had almost no cap space to re-sign Bertuzzi last year, prompting his move to Toronto where he scored 21 goals and 22 assists. Despite hopes of a bigger market developing for him in free agency, Bertuzzi ultimately opted to return to a familiar salary range with the Blackhawks. He may find himself playing alongside emerging superstar Connor Bedard in Chicago as he looks to make an impact with his new team.
