Sgt. Sarah Roque, a 23-year-old U.S. Army sergeant, was found dead in a dumpster on a Missouri military base this week. She was reported missing when she failed to show up for duty at Fort Leonard Wood. Her death is being investigated as a homicide by the Army Criminal Investigation. A person of interest has been arrested in connection to her killing, but their identity and charges have not been released. Roque, originally from Ligonier, Indiana, enlisted in the Army in 2020 and served as a mine dog handler with the K9 Detachment in the Fifth Engineer Battalion. She received several awards and decorations for her service. Maj. General Christopher Beck expressed his condolences and called Roque’s death a tragedy. The Army has asked for privacy for Roque’s family during this difficult time. The army is providing resources and support to those affected by her passing.
