Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor has been relieved of duty in connection with the Karen Read murder case. Read, charged with second-degree murder and other offenses in the death of her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, faced a mistrial as the jury could not reach a verdict. Proctor had been under internal review for his involvement in the investigation. In testimony during the trial, it was revealed that Proctor made inappropriate comments and joked about disturbing texts. The State Police expressed condolences to O’Keefe’s family and emphasized their commitment to professionalism and integrity in delivering police services. Proctor will be transferred out of the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective’s Unit and is subject to an internal affairs investigation. The State Police are focused on providing justice and support to all those affected by this tragic case.
