Patriots coach shares encouraging news about Drake Maye’s head injury

Drake Maye, the Patriots quarterback, suffered a concussion in last weekend’s game against the Jets. However, he is already back on the practice field in Foxborough, albeit in a limited capacity as he continues to navigate the NFL’s concussion protocol. Coach Jerod Mayo mentioned that Maye is in good spirits and will be participating in practice, but only for a short period of time. Mayo expressed confidence that if Maye is cleared to play by the league, he will be ready to go. In the meantime, Jacoby Brissett is prepared to step in if needed.

Mayo did not disclose what stage of the concussion protocol Maye is in, but indicated that he will not practice for more than 30 minutes, suggesting he is likely in Phase 3. This phase involves football-specific exercises and supervised strength training. There are two more steps before a player can be cleared to play involving non-contact drills and eventually full football activity.

If Maye is not cleared by Sunday’s game in Tennessee, Joe Milton III will serve as the backup to Brissett. The Patriots are taking all necessary precautions to ensure Maye’s safety and well-being as he works his way back to full participation on the field. Fans will eagerly await updates on Maye’s progress as the team prepares for their upcoming game.
