Joe Mazzulla Discusses Kristaps Porzingis’s Remarkable Progress

Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis Makes Progress in Rehab Following Surgery

Boston Celtics forward Kristaps Porzingis is steadily improving in his recovery from offseason leg surgery, although his return isn’t imminent. Head coach Joe Mazzulla recently shared updates on Porzingis’s rehabilitation, stating he is engaging in on-court workouts, including intense drills and 5-on-1 exercises with coaches, indicating he is moving closer to full strength.

Porzingis, who underwent surgery in June after an injury during the NBA Finals, was sidelined for five months, but reports suggest he could return in December. His absence has not significantly hindered the Celtics, who are off to a strong 10-3 start this season, maintaining a stellar net rating. However, the team has seen a decline in rim protection, an area where Porzingis excelled last season, averaging 1.9 blocks per game.

Teammate Jrue Holiday expressed eagerness for Porzingis’s return, highlighting his unique ability to enhance both offensive and defensive plays. "He just makes the game so much easier with his length, being able to protect the rim," Holiday stated, adding that Porzingis’s presence fosters confidence among his teammates.

Despite not being on the court, Porzingis has remained actively involved with the team, contributing positively to the locker room atmosphere. Mazzulla praised Porzingis for his commitment during his recovery, pointing out the professionalism and togetherness he brings to the Celtics.

As fans await his comeback, Porzingis’s prior performances in the Boston lineup have raised expectations for the impact he will have once fully cleared to play. The Celtics are hopeful his return will bolster their already impressive start to the season and enhance their playoff prospects.
