1,000 Jobs Possible as Amazon Opens New Fulfillment Center in Charlton

Amazon has officially launched its new fulfillment center, ORH3, in Charlton. The 2.8 million square foot facility is set to employ over 1,000 people by 2025. The company spokesperson expressed gratitude for the local support and noted the center’s opening just before the holiday season. In response to concerns about potential traffic impacts, Amazon has collaborated with MassDOT to address and mitigate any issues on Route 20.

At fulfillment centers like ORH3, employees handle picking, packing, and shipping orders placed on the Amazon app or website. The Charlton facility will primarily ship packages to nearby delivery stations, such as the one in Worcester on Neponset Street. This 121,000-square-foot delivery center, opened on October 16, 2024, receives packages from warehouses like the one in Charlton and loads them onto trucks for local delivery.

The company spokesperson highlighted Amazon’s regionalization strategy that involves staging products closest to customers who are likely to order them. As operations at ORH3 continue to grow, Amazon will keep a close eye on traffic along Route 20. With the support of local policymakers and the Commonwealth, Amazon is optimistic about the center’s future success and contributions to the community.
