At least 11 people killed in Israeli airstrikes in Beirut, Middle East

Israeli airstrikes in central Beirut on Saturday resulted in at least 11 deaths and dozens of injuries, with the death toll expected to rise as emergency responders continue their efforts. This marks the fourth round of strikes in the Lebanese capital in less than a week, amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The escalation in violence follows recent diplomatic efforts to secure a cease-fire in the region.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that more than 3,500 people have been killed and 15,000 wounded in the conflict, leading to the displacement of approximately 1.2 million people. In addition, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed over 44,000 people in the past 13 months, with more than half of the fatalities being women and children. The Israeli military claims to have killed over 17,000 militants, though evidence has not been provided.

The International Criminal Court recently issued warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials, along with a top Hamas official, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The global response to these warrants has been varied, with the U.S. and other countries expressing concern and rejecting the court’s decision.

As the conflict continues to escalate, the humanitarian situation in Lebanon and Gaza remains dire, with many people facing food shortages, displacement, and lack of basic services. The impact of the ongoing violence on civilian populations and the prospects for peace in the region remain uncertain.
