Man from California charged with federal prison escape

A 55-year-old fugitive named Eric Pree, who had escaped from federal prison in North California and had been on the run for almost eight years, has been caught and indicted for escaping from custody. Pree, originally from San Francisco, was serving a 101-month sentence for federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges when he escaped from U.S. Penitentiary Atwater in January 2017. He carried multiple cellphones, ID cards, debit and credit cards in different names, as well as fake identification at the time of his arrest in October in Walnut Creek. Pree is now back in federal custody to serve the remainder of his original sentence and faces an additional five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the escape charges.
