Israeli Strikes Decimate Key Military Targets in Syria, Bashar al-Assad’s Regime Responds

In the past 48 hours, Israel has launched approximately 250 air strikes on Syria, targeting key military sites following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad by opposition forces. The strikes have reportedly destroyed airports, air defence facilities, naval ships, and military warehouses near Latakia and Damascus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has described the attacks as systematic and aimed at crippling Syria’s defence capabilities.

Israel has also sent troops into a buffer zone near the Golan Heights and seized additional territory, violating a ceasefire agreement with Syria. Al Jazeera’s political analyst Marwan Bishara believes Israel may be taking advantage of the regime change in Damascus to expand its presence in the region.

While the incoming Salvation Government in Syria has not yet responded to the attacks, the Council on American-Islamic Relations has criticized the US government for its support of Israel despite the escalating violence in the region. Meanwhile, Syria’s parliament and Baath party have expressed support for a transitional phase and rebuilding efforts to create a new Syria governed by law and justice.

The situation in Syria remains tense as Israel continues its aerial assault on key military sites, raising concerns about the future stability and security of the region.
