Former Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Lawrence, Jhovanny Martes-Rosario, has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges and faces up to 20 years in prison, according to federal prosecutors. Martes-Rosario admitted to one count of transportation of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography in federal court. Authorities arrested him in February 2023 after identifying him as the user of online accounts containing child pornography.
During a search of Martes-Rosario’s residence, law enforcement found an iPad with child pornography. The former Chief of Staff, who was fired from his position after the arrest, confessed to owning the online accounts and searching for and downloading child pornography.
Martes-Rosario’s guilty plea means he could be sentenced to a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in prison for transportation of child pornography and up to 20 years in prison for possession of child pornography. Representation for Martes-Rosario did not respond to requests for comment on the guilty plea.
