The Boston Red Sox are reportedly interested in acquiring right-hander Dylan Cease as part of their offseason pitching plans. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Red Sox may pursue Cease if they are unable to secure Corbin Burnes in free agency. Cease, who started 33 games for the San Diego Padres in 2024, posted impressive numbers with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts. The Red Sox have already missed out on Max Fried, who signed with the New York Yankees, raising the urgency to strengthen their pitching rotation. Cease, who will be a free agent after 2025, could provide a valuable one-year option to boost the Red Sox’s chances in the competitive AL East. Despite a need to add pitching, the Red Sox may need to give up prospects or MLB-level players in a trade for Cease. With the winter free agent class thinning out, the pressure is on the Red Sox to make a move to enhance their roster for the upcoming season.
