The Fourth of July was celebrated in style in Holyoke this year, with community members coming together for parades at Hampton Ponds and Wyben. The events featured local musicians, classic cars, and a display of patriotism that brought people together. It was a great day for families to come out and enjoy the festivities, with plenty of familiar faces lining the parade routes.
One standout from the Holyoke Police Department, Capt. Denise DuGuay, recently retired after a successful three-decade career. A trailblazer for women in the department, DuGuay rose through the ranks to become the first woman captain in 2011. Her dedication to serving the people of Holyoke was evident throughout her career, and her retirement is well-deserved.
As we reflect on the Fourth of July celebrations and say goodbye to a dedicated public servant, we can be thankful for the strong sense of community and patriotism that was on display. Events like these parades showcase the best of what Holyoke has to offer, and we look forward to coming together again next year to celebrate our country and those who serve it. Congratulations to Capt. DuGuay on her retirement, and thank you to all who made the Fourth of July a day to remember in Holyoke.
