Multiple members of the Trump family have made appearances and speeches at the Republican National Convention, with the exception of Melania Trump. Melania has been noticeably absent from the convention, despite reports that she plans to appear at some point. She did not appear when Senator J.D. Vance accepted the party’s vice presidential nomination, and has not made any public statements besides a statement issued after an assassination attempt on her husband. Former President Donald Trump is expected to formally accept the party’s nomination for the 2024 Election at the convention. Melania’s absence from the convention is a break from tradition, as spouses of presidential candidates typically give speeches. She has previously spoken at Republican National Conventions in 2020 and 2016. Melania has rarely been seen on the campaign trail this year, only appearing at private events and polling places. She has been absent from primary victory celebrations and Trump’s trial in New York. The attempted assassination on Trump in Pennsylvania was condemned by Melania, who thanked Secret Service agents for protecting her husband and called for Americans to rise above hate and violence. The shooter, Thomas Crooks, was killed by law enforcement after firing shots. Melania’s future involvement in the campaign remains uncertain, with her previous response to questions about returning to the campaign trail being “stay tuned.”
