After a trade in 2023, Aaron Rodgers has been contemplating his future with the New York Jets. However, the team has reportedly told the 41-year-old quarterback that they are moving on from him. Despite uncertainty surrounding his playing status, Rodgers had expressed a desire to take a break and refresh mentally before making a decision.
The Jets recently hired a new general manager and coach, signaling a new regime that would have the final say on Rodgers’ future with the team. While the new coach, Aaron Glenn, had reached out to Rodgers for discussions, it seems that the Jets have decided to move forward without him.
If Rodgers is cut or retires, the Jets could face a significant dead money charge next season unless they designate him a post-June 1 cut. Rodgers, who spent 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers before being traded to the Jets, had a mixed first season with the team due to injury and inconsistent performance.
Despite some highlights like throwing four touchdown passes in his final game, Rodgers was not able to showcase the dynamic playmaking abilities he once had. With the Jets holding the No. 7 overall pick in the upcoming draft, they may look to pursue a new quarterback to lead the team moving forward.
