The Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut announced the death of a gray seal pup named Chappy, who was rescued last month after being found on the streets of New Haven. The seal pup had been in the aquarium’s care since February 16 but unfortunately succumbed to gastrointestinal issues. A necropsy revealed twisted intestines and small pieces of plastic in the seal’s stomach, highlighting the threat of marine debris to marine animals. The aquarium staff expressed devastation over the loss but thanked everyone for their support and words of encouragement. Chappy had been surrounded by love until the very end. The aquarium had been documenting the seal’s progress on social media since his rescue. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting marine animals from the dangers of plastic pollution.
