Legendary actor Gene Hackman passed away from heart disease and severe Alzheimer’s disease, just a week after his wife died of hantavirus. Authorities initially ruled out foul play after finding their bodies on Feb. 26, with tests for carbon monoxide poisoning coming back negative. Chief Medical Investigator Dr. Heather Jarrell revealed that Hackman showed advanced Alzheimer’s and was in poor health due to significant heart disease. His death was attributed to heart disease, with Alzheimer’s playing a contributing factor.
Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, was found to have died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare disease spread through infected rodent droppings. The couple’s deaths were a tragic sequence of events, with Arakawa found with an open prescription bottle and pills scattered in the bathroom. The announcement of their causes of death was made by Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza, alongside state fire and health officials. The couple’s passing has left a somber atmosphere in the entertainment world, as fans mourn the loss of a Hollywood legend.
