Massachusetts attorney admits to smuggling marijuana-infused papers into detention center

Massachusetts attorney Theresa Marie DiJoseph pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to smuggle contraband into a federal detention center in Rhode Island. The 51-year-old attorney conspired with three others to bring 10 papers soaked with K2, a synthetic marijuana, into the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Center. DiJoseph had a personal relationship with detainee Shawn D. Hart and used a visiting room meant for attorneys to meet with him. Correctional officers seized the papers during an attempted visit on Dec. 1, 2023, and testing confirmed the presence of controlled substances.

DiJoseph pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance analogue, conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, and providing a prohibited object to the inmate. She also admitted to making false statements to the FBI during their investigation. DiJoseph’s sentencing is scheduled for June 12. The case highlights the illegal activities that can occur in correctional facilities and the consequences for those involved in such criminal behavior.
