A tornado struck Dothan Preparatory Academy in Dothan, Alabama, causing significant damage to the school’s gymnasium and injuring five students. The storm occurred around 1 p.m. local time, with two students being hospitalized. The rest of the school, serving seventh and eighth graders, suffered minor damage. Additionally, PASS Academy and Dothan City Virtual School were also damaged. All students and staff were accounted for, and crews were surveying the area for damage. Power outages affected over 3,100 people in Houston County, where Dothan is located. The quick actions of staff and students were credited with saving lives and minimizing injuries. The reunification point for parents to pick up their children was set at the Doug Tew Recreation Center. The tornado was not the same one that moved through the City of Dothan. Additionally, a video of the tornado near the Dale/Henry county line was shared by meteorologist James Spann, showing it moving towards Headland before dissipating. The situation is still developing.
