Billerica Man Arrested After Fleeing Crash, Hitting Pedestrian
Lowell, MA – Christopher Campbell, a 30-year-old from Billerica, faces multiple charges following a chaotic series of events late Saturday night. According to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, Campbell crashed his Volkswagen Jetta into another vehicle at Boylston and Rogers Street before abandoning his car and attacking the other driver, who fled in fear. He subsequently stole the victim’s car and drove it erratically, eventually hitting a pedestrian on the sidewalk. The pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Just after 11 p.m., Massachusetts State Police received reports of a vehicle with no headlights driving irresponsibly on I-495 south. Upon arriving, they discovered the car abandoned after it had reportedly been struck by another vehicle. Following a search, officers located Campbell hiding in a culvert nearby, where he allegedly threatened them, claiming to possess a gun. He was subdued with a Taser and arrested without further incident.
Campbell faces multiple charges, including two counts of leaving the scene of an injury crash, assault with a dangerous weapon, and carjacking, and is expected to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday. The investigation into the incidents continues.
