In an exciting round of high school tennis playoffs, No. 4 Apponequet (17-1) triumphed over No. 29 Hanover with a decisive 5-0 victory in the Div. 3 boys’ Round of 32. Will Horton and Nick Connolly both demonstrated skillful play, winning their singles matches in straight sets. The doubles teams of Ryan Abreau/Eugene Jung and Jared Freitas/Cory Dugdale also secured impressive wins.
Meanwhile, No. 13 Westford Academy (10-4) edged out No. 20 Lincoln-Sudbury 3-2 in Div. 1 action, thanks to strong performances from Nikhil Ponnusamy and Sam Ren in doubles. The No. 13 Marblehead (16-2) also celebrated a narrow 3-2 victory over No. 20 Algonquin in their Div. 2 matchup, with TJ Kelly leading the charge.
On the women’s side, No. 32 Wareham overcame No. 33 Groton-Dunstable 4-1, showcasing Evelyn Francis’s dominant play. No. 11 Oliver Ames advanced after a tense 3-2 win against Holliston, while No. 8 Winchester had a flawless 5-0 showing against No. 25 King Philip.
