Louisiana, USA — NBA YoungBoy, the rising rap star whose legal troubles recently led to a nearly two-year prison sentence on gun charges, received a pardon from President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The hip-hop artist, born Kentrell Gaulden, expressed his gratitude in a public statement, thanking Trump for the opportunity to focus on his personal and professional life.
The White House confirmed Gaulden’s pardon through anonymous sources, revealing a wider pattern of pardons granted by Trump this week, which included a former congressman and a reality TV couple.
In 2024, Gaulden faced federal charges in Utah related to gun possession, which stemmed from an incident involving firearms during a rap video shoot in Baton Rouge. As a convicted felon, he had agreed to settle multiple legal issues, resulting in a 23-month prison sentence, probation for five years, and a substantial fine. After serving time, he was released to home confinement in March, which concluded last month.
His attorney, Drew Findling, celebrated the pardon, stating it allows Gaulden to channel his energy into family and career. "Now he can concentrate on his family and his amazing career," said Findling.
Gaulden’s previous legal challenges included a guilty plea related to a prescription drug fraud operation, for which he faced no prison time but paid a $25,000 fine. Known for hits like “38 Baby” and “Outside Today,” he is gearing up for a major U.S. tour this September and has made waves on the Billboard charts, boasting four No. 1 albums and a Grammy nomination in 2022.
