Memphis Mayor Paul Young’s gated neighborhood was the site of a serious security incident on June 15 when 25-year-old Trenton Abston was arrested for trespassing and stalking. Abston’s vehicle contained alarming items including a stun gun, gloves, rope, and duct tape. Security footage revealed he had scaled a wall to reach the mayor’s home, where he knocked on the door around 9:30 p.m. Although he left before police arrived, his face was captured on a doorbell camera.
Initially charged with misdemeanors, Abston now faces felony attempted kidnapping charges. According to police, he admitted to researching Young’s residence, driven by anger regarding crime in the city, which he expressed during questioning.
