Celtics Executive Confirms Key Players Off the Trading Block Post-Draft
BOSTON – The Boston Celtics have firmly stated that Jaylen Brown and Derrick White are not on the trading block, quelling recent rumors after the 2025 NBA Draft. Mike Zarren, the team’s vice president of basketball operations, emphasized that both players are integral to the Celtics’ future. "Those two guys are really great NBA players. There hasn’t been anything close to serious about trading them," Zarren said during a post-draft video conference.
Despite trade offers circulating from various NBA teams for Brown and White, insiders noted that Boston was unlikely to act on them. Earlier in the week, the Celtics traded two other key players – Jrue Holiday to Portland and Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta – to save over $250 million in salary and tax penalties, a decision spurred by the league’s punitive tax structure.
While Zarren acknowledged that the team is contemplating further roster adjustments to enhance flexibility under the salary cap, he reaffirmed the commitment to build around Brown, White, and star player Jayson Tatum, who is recovering from a ruptured Achilles. "We’re ready to go trying to get that next banner," Zarren concluded.
