Charles Barkley Calls Out TNT for Poor Communication: ‘I Told Them They Stink’

Charles Barkley Expresses Frustration Over TNT’s Communication Amid ESPN Transition

In a candid revelation during a recent appearance on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, Charles Barkley shared his frustrations about the handling of TNT’s transition of “Inside the NBA” to ESPN. After 25 enjoyable years with TNT, Barkley was taken aback when he learned about the shift through friends at ESPN rather than from his own network. “I found out that we got traded to ESPN from ESPN,” he recalled, receiving congratulatory messages from ESPN personalities before a call from TNT confirmed the news.

Barkley criticized TNT for their lack of transparency regarding the potential loss of NBA broadcasting rights. He described the situation as poorly managed, citing confusion about ongoing negotiations. "TNT never came to us, like grown folks, and said, ‘Hey guys, we’re probably going to lose the NBA,’ which we could have understood," he stated.

As part of an 11-year media rights deal worth an estimated $76 million, the NBA’s games will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC, marking a significant shift in the landscape of sports television. Despite his initial intention to step away from television following TNT’s loss of the rights, Barkley confirmed he will continue with his “Inside the NBA” colleagues—Earnie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal—as the show moves to ESPN for the 2025-26 season. The show, which has been a staple since 1989, will cover important NBA events, from playoff games to the Finals on ABC.

Barkley’s comments highlight the essential need for clear communication in professional settings, particularly during significant organizational changes.
