In a thrilling 10-inning matchup, Red Sox prospect Johanfran Garcia delivered a walkoff RBI single off the left field wall, propelling High-A Greenville to a 2-1 victory over Rome on Sunday. Garcia, the younger brother of top Boston prospect Jhostynxon “The Password” Garcia, showcased his resilience following a significant knee injury that required season-ending surgery last May. After starting the year in extended spring training and a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League (FCL), he joined Greenville on June 10.
At just 20 years old, Garcia has made a notable impact, boasting a batting average of .242 with a .336 on-base percentage and five home runs in 33 games. Baseball America has recognized him as the No. 14 prospect in the Red Sox organization for the upcoming season, highlighting his potential in the lineup.
In other minor league developments, Vaughn Grissom was held out of the Triple-A Worcester lineup due to a sore foot, while Red Sox pitching prospect Payton Tolle made his Triple-A debut, struggling initially but stabilizing to finish strong after allowing six first-inning runs. Notably, Luis Perales has commenced bullpen sessions as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
