Family of Deceased Officer Seeks Answers Nearly a Year After Tragic Incident
Almost a year after the death of Officer Enrique Delgado-García, his family continues to search for answers about the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Sandra García, his mother, expressed her initial concerns when he announced his decision to join the Massachusetts State Police Academy in the spring of 2024. “I told Enrique I wasn’t on board… because it scared me,” she recounted.
Delgado-García passed away in September 2024, just weeks before his expected graduation from the 90th Recruit Training Troop. He had been undergoing an intense 25-week program which included rigorous physical training, legal coursework, and tactical skills. His family noted a significant change in his demeanor, mentioning he often returned home exhausted and nervous about the training.
On September 12, 2024, Sandra received a distressing call leading her to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where she was informed that her son had suffered severe head trauma and was on life support. The family quickly began questioning the details of his injury, especially since medical personnel remarked his injuries resembled those sustained in severe automobile accidents, not typical training injuries.
The investigation into Delgado-García’s death has been extensive, with efforts under the direction of attorney David Meier at a significant financial cost. Despite state police cooperation, the family feels frustrated with the lack of transparency and details. As of August, they awaited the outcome of the independent investigation, which, while costly, serves as a beacon of hope for clarity.
Sandra remains in deep mourning. “Some nights I can’t sleep, and I just wake up crying,” she said. As the anniversary of Enrique’s tragic death approaches, his family hopes to uncover the truth and find closure.
