Trump’s Approval Ratings: A Mixed Bag Across the States
In recent findings by Morning Consult, President Donald Trump’s approval ratings reveal a significant divide across the United States. The report, analyzing perceptions of the president’s job performance, indicates that Vermont tops the list of disapproval, with 64% of voters expressing dissatisfaction—an increase from 62% in March. Massachusetts follows closely, boasting a 62% disapproval rating, climbing from 58% earlier this year. New England as a whole shows a strong anti-Trump sentiment, with disapproval rates exceeding 50% in Connecticut (58%), Rhode Island and Maine (56% each), and New Hampshire (55%).
Conversely, Wyoming remains a bastion of support for Trump, with a notable 66% approval rating, though this figure is down from 76% in March. Nationally, Trump’s approval stands at 47% as of August 18, a slight uptick from 45% two weeks prior, but down from 52% at the start of his second term.
Overall, Trump maintains an approval rating above 50% in 27 states, including key 2024 battlegrounds like Nevada, Georgia, and North Carolina. His popularity is nearly even in Arizona, with a 49% approval to 48% disapproval split. Meanwhile, upcoming gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey show disapproval rates of 52% and 53%, respectively.
The report compiled data from daily surveys over a three-month period, with a margin of error of 6% for less populous states and 1% for more populous ones. As Trump navigates his presidency amidst fluctuating support, these numbers will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping future electoral strategies.
