Massachusetts Teachers Association Faces Complaint Over Antisemitism Allegations
A complaint has been filed against the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) by the Zionist Organization for America (ZOA), accusing the union of discrimination against Jewish educators amid an alleged "anti-Israel" campaign. The complaint, submitted to Attorney General Andrea Campbell, highlights materials shared by the MTA that ZOA claims are antisemitic, including a poster depicting the Star of David made from dollar bills and another suggesting violence as a means of reclaiming territory.
Susan Tuchman, ZOA’s Center for Law and Justice executive director, stated that MTA leadership failed to acknowledge their mistakes or apologize for the offensive content, exacerbating a hostile environment for Jewish members. Allegations also include scheduling meetings during the Jewish Sabbath without accommodations and creating webinars that Tuchman claims spread falsehoods about Israel and Jews.
MTA representatives have indicated they are currently reviewing the complaint. Tuchman emphasizes that the MTA should focus on improving conditions for educators rather than engaging in international conflicts, believing the actions taken have made some Jewish members feel unwelcome and intimidated. The situation continues to unfold, with local leaders observing the growing tension within the educators’ community.
