Scuba divers saved after 36-hour search in Texas Gulf following beacon activation

Two residents of Oklahoma, Nathan and Kim Maker, went missing while scuba diving off a Texas beach but were rescued by the Coast Guard about 15 miles offshore after being spotted with a flashing light in the water. The search lasted over 36 hours and covered 1,656 square miles of the ocean before the divers were located. The pair, who are in stable condition, were transported to a Coast Guard station. Kim Maker is an elementary school teacher, and the Edmond School District expressed relief at their rescue. The third diver who went with them, Lisa Shearin, was shocked by their rescue and believed that they had a greater purpose to fulfill as they survived under difficult conditions. The incident highlights the importance of proper safety measures and preparedness while engaging in water-related activities such as scuba diving.
