Steve Belichick, son of former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, recently made a significant career move by joining the University of Washington as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator after spending 12 seasons on the Patriots’ coaching staff. His decision to leave New England was not driven by eagerness but rather by the organic opportunity that arose. Belichick has worn various coaching hats with the Patriots, including positions such as defensive assistant, safeties coach, and defensive backs coach.
Under the leadership of head coach Jedd Fisch, Belichick is set to embark on his new coaching journey at Washington. Despite living about 3,000 miles apart, he maintains a close relationship with his father, Bill Belichick, and continues to communicate with him regularly about football as the season approaches. Belichick emphasized that he has never felt overshadowed by his father’s legacy and views himself as his own person in the coaching realm.
Meanwhile, Bill Belichick has been staying busy by joining Underdog Fantasy to host a new football show called “Coach, with Bill Belichick,” in addition to making appearances on various platforms such as “The Pat McAfee Show” and “Manningcast.” While Belichick Sr. adjusts to a new chapter outside the NFL, his son Steve is poised to embrace his first coaching role without his father by his side. Despite the physical distance between them, the Belichick duo remains connected through their shared passion for football.
